When you torque down the drum it can cause the washer to deform, basically pushes it into the O ring and destroyed it causing leaks. In the kits it is often to thin and soft. Just asking because i'm going to order some here also locally What about the large o rings? are they also better to have grade 70 with 2.6mm thickness? What is the factory spec inner diamater for the large O rings? Mine are leaking also, prob also the O rings, have you tried installing the small o rings to test? Posted: Sat 3:39 am Post subject: Re: Rear axle seal - leaking, again and again *"sold", they don't really sell to ordinary persons (only large companies) but I bought them a huge cake at a local bakery. I have no idea if anyone has ever tried these, but durability, hardness, etc come close to factory specs so at least now I'm better equipped for continuous experiments. And, ne not only sold* me 4 O-rings with a 2.62 mm thickness (30 mm inner diameter) - but he also MADE me sample rings from several of their other materials (teflon etc etc). Not by much, he guessed "80" for the kit. Also he suspected it to be slightly harder than their qualities. If factory specs are 2.6 mm, that would be too thick.Ģ. 2.8-2.9 mm in thickness at 30 mm inner diameter. A very nice fellow there took an interest in the O-ring mystery and we realized that:ġ. just south of Norway - and I found a company in town that custom makes gaskets for the oil industry (and shipping etc etc). Yes, I'm looking into replacement spacers, as well as new gaskets.ĪND in a stroke of luck, I live in Gothenburg, Sweden. Posted: Fri 1:31 pm Post subject: Re: Rear axle seal - leaking, again and again My question is which way does the spacer go on? Outer bevel toward the backing plate or toward the drum? Thanks! Photo A shows the outer bevel and photo B the inner bevel. It is because I have not been clear on the bevel I'm referring to so now I've included these pics for clarification. I finally realized why the answers I've gotten are confusing me. Smashed even though the spacer left some space for it.īetter pictures of the spacer outside / inside groves / etc here: So, unfortunately the spacer is correctly placed. Well I thought so too, but the _inside_ bewel / slanted groove / indentation / is on the other side from the outer (the outer is directed towards the drum/ outsite).
